Indy Invitational Rules

Rules

We use standard GAA rules for each sport unless specified here. The Head Referee should be consulted for questions.
  • Matches are 20-minute halves with a 5-minute half-time. Teams are 13 per side. *
  • Draws are allowed in the regular games, but finals will have 5-minute periods added until there is a winner.
  • Field managers may instruct a referee if we are behind schedule and need to cut a game short.
  • Forfeit policy is 15 minutes after a scheduled game. *
  • If less than 1 half can be played due to weather or time constraints, the match is canceled.
  • Championship matches are played by the 2 teams with highest average tournament points: 3 pt for a win, 1 for tie, none for loss. Tie-breakers are: avg points differential, avg offensive scoring, avg defensive scoring, then coin toss.
  • Any officiating problem unable to be resolved on the field is escalated to the Head Referee, then the Tournament Chair.
  • Any problems involving scoring, ranking, players, or other competition-related issues are escalated to the Division Arbiter, then the Tournament Chair.
* If captains agree, tournament matches may be played with reduced players, shortened time, or shortened field dimensions.

Ranking Logic

  • Tournament rankings during "regular season" (non-championship matches) are primarily ordered by the League Points, averaged per match to ensure fairness in case teams play unequal numbers of matches. A forfeit counts as a loss for the forfeiting team, and a win for the other. If needed, tie-breakers are used to determine rankings as described below.
  • The 1st and 2nd ranked teams will enter the Championship match. If a division has a second Championship match, the 3rd and 4th ranked teams are entered. The winner of the championship will be #1 in the final rankings, and the loser #2. If there is a second Championship match, the winner and loser will be ranked #3 and #4 respectively.
  • Ranking rules:
    1. Average League Points

A team is awarded 3 League Points for a win, 1 League Point for a draw, and zero points for a loss.

    2. Average Scoring Differential

If teams have equal average League Points, the Average Scoring differential is used as the first tie-breaker. The Average Scoring differential is calculated as a team's total score per match minus their opponents' total scores per match. Cancelled and forfeited matches are not used in the calculation.

    3. Average Total Score

If necessary, score per match is used as the next tie breaker. Cancelled and forfeited matches are not used in the calculation.

    4. Average Total Allowed Score

If necessary, allowed score per match is used as the final tie-breaker. Cancelled and forfeited matches are not used in the calculation.

    5. Coin toss

If a tie remains after all tie-breakers have been calculated, the decision is made by coin toss.
